Do you know that the biggest challenge I have as a coach is ridding clients of their 'diet mentality'.
That is why with every new client, I do a Personalized Food Plan based on their age, goals, genetics and their metabolism (this I learn from closely assessing their uploaded food logs).
It is not about handing out cookie-cutter eating plans, which is lazy on the part of the coach. It is about meeting the client where she is at, and crafting an appropriate plan from there.
The whole idea is to help the client take her hands off the food steering wheel, and let me build and manage their food in an effective and metabolism-boosting way, so they can stop thinking about food. Because so much mental energy is used up in thinking, controlling, and fearing food. It is no way to live!
But this can be hard for someone who is managing everything, controlling everything in an effort to get it right. But control is an illusion, and easing up on the gas is what is required, although it is the opposite to what she is used to.
That uncomfortableness makes it hard for some women, and they quickly return to their apps, counting, controlling....and makes the coaching process a challenge.
Old habits die hard, but women are in the place they are in - with stubborn weight, butting up against ageing and all its manifestations - because of their ingrained habitual ways of thinking. Yet, they often remain invisible to the client.
A good coach steps back, comes to learn about her client, and coaches her from a place to build confidence, and to teach lifelong strategies that she can implement each and every day.
It's about creating a strong, fresh mindset with fresh habits that work FOR her, not AGAINST her.
