We need to put a Chink in the Chain, which requires putting
in a new ACTION to interrupt the old habitual thought / habit / belief.
This is THE MOST IMPORTANT part of what we need to do - ACTION - yet, this is where most women sit who are not seeing change in their weight or physiology.
'I know what to do but I'm not doing it' is an example of this faulty thinking, because if you knew what to do, you'd be doing it.
Intervention, please....!
Nothing 'fixes' itself. It's on us....but first, we have to bring the unconscious to the table, bring it up into the light of day.
Your neurons fire in a repetitive and habitual way...these neurotransmitters are carrying that thought or action along well-worn pathways that are deep and sure.
Like tracks in the sand where the car easily can drive through the deep tracks, it is exactly what happens in your brain...
So if you want to change something, you have to make new tracks, with a CHANGED ACTION to begin making fresh tracks and fresh habits over there...
So Netflix comes on and you immediately want to indulge....it's because you've done so for a long time, and the brain would rather just repeat a habit than use energy to create a new
one...
Let's just fall into those well-worn, unconscious and habitual tracks and go grab a snack.
At another level, there is a desire for a dopamine rush (the brain LOVES a dopamine rush) and so when a bad thought or uncomfortable feeling comes up, most people are not taught to look at
it at the source (most unconscious people, which is 85% of the people out there), so rather than get curious and investigate, and learn to transcend the uncomfortable feeling into something worthwhile and with a positive meaning now, we DULL it with food.
Food - especially carbs (carbs and
sugar are the same thing...carbs) light up the frontal cortex of your brain, much like what happens to a junkie or a gambler. So the uncomfortable feeling you have that began when you had that fight with your hubby and the feelings of feeling ashamed, taken for granted or whatever else is coming up...perhaps your boss or your hubby initiated that chain reaction to that feeling, with that cascade of familiar chemicals in your body that make up 'shame' or 'resentment' that has happened so often,
your body clicks into it quite fast and the memory and the feeling flood your cells - makes you reach for comfort...being food.
Both scenarios are habitual responses that you feel
out of control with, and you feel like it just 'takes you away'. It's because it's unconscious.
And a proper habit break is not about choosing low cal popcorn over a chocolate bar...trading one for another across the map is keeping the same reward in place and the same action happening...had to mouth
with food in it. There is no rewiring happening here...
Or choosing diet pop over regular (because it's really not about the calories anyways)...same thinking habit is firmly in place..
That is why in my coaching approach we make them conscious, with a look at Archetypes, Mother versus Child energy, your automatic default setting (where you go when the poop hits the fan...anger,
isolation, shame...) Authentic or Wounded Self, values, self identity, Empowered Woman energy..
We are making the unconscious conscious. Because this challenge that you have is really not about the food or the weight.
it's about what lies under the surface....in your MINDSET. How you're wired.
So knowing and meeting these forces, and understanding at a deeper level gives you a sense of control and choice.
BUT...you MUST take action on it. Not just thinking about it, but actually putting your physiology into it. When you put that in, it uproots the old, habitual neurotransmitters that 'fire together and wire
together' and a new roadway, new mapping of the brain, hence new wiring and new beliefs, thoughts and habits can be born. And a new Self Identity can emerge with a new belief system and new traits to support living, thinking and doing differently.
And this requires repetition, time, conditioning,
and in time that new habit, thought, pattern becomes YOU, healthy, empowered, free.
