One of the toughest things for women on a weight loss journey is the dreaded plateau...The weight is falling off, all is good for awhile, and then it halts...Panic sets in, and the client
goes into overdrive, automatically going into her head an thinking of all the things that could have happened....she often sees it as her body deceiving her.Now there are two kinds of plateaus...the good and necessary ones, and the bad ones. The good ones are an offshoot of the weight loss process. Your body naturally needs to 'take a breath' because it can't keep losing at the same
speed every week...it is biologically impossible. And so, you ride it out (every competitor knows this piece of the process intimately!).The bad plateaus, the sticky ones, are the ones where a diet has come on board (versus just managing calories), and too much is done at once...Low Carb, Keto, Fasting, Drastic calorie Cuts, and the body rebels."Push the body and it
responds."Force the body and it rebels." - Scott AbelIn this scenario, the mind goes all over the map. Panic sets in. The client begins to dig in deeper...more cardio, more calorie cuts, more push push action....you simply cannot get to sustainable results in a Push Push approach...And then the body does
the only thing it knows how to survive...it pushes back. This is sooo much a mindset thing, and that is why I work so much on mindset FIRST before embarking on a strategy for a client. Because it is always US getting in our own way (and this is rarely about 'motivation' or 'willpower').If you're not careful, the Diet Triad comes into play...1. lose the weight, 2. the weight loss
stalls, then 3. the body can actually put the weight back on....and more. Why? Because it's in survival mode. And every diet you do creates more imbalance and more of this 'over compensation' process wherein the body more easily puts on weight (hence we hear 'what used to work doesn't work anymore. It seems no matter how little I eat, I can't lose'.The biochemistry has
changed. The brain has been hardwired into this process, and it must be altered. This is why every client I work with does a weeklong Beliefs Detox. I call it Getting the Junk Out. And throughout the coaching process, we continue to uproot those weeds, those negative thinking patterns, self sabotage and unconscious programming.Women KNOW they are the thing that is standing in their
own way, the lack of consistency, folding up when the process gets hard or they aren't seeing results, using panic and perfectionism as the driving forces, and even a fear of failure (again) can cause the brain and body to want to go off the food plan.Psychology, baby. And that is why clients need a deep, lasting and sustainable approach to weight loss.Do calories matter? Of
course. But at the end of the day, unless your foundation - your unconscious - is changed into the Success Mode, you will continue to fall in the Diet Trap, over and over again. (Some have been living in this predicament for decades).I talk about what to do when you hit a plateau in my podcast... https://karenmccoy.buzzsprout.com/2144669/12581514-breaking-a-weight-loss-plateau I teach women over 40 a deep, sustainable way to lose unwanted pounds, embrace ageing, reclaim our
