The main reason is a little roadblock called our hormones.
It gets a little complicated but basically, you need carbs to support natural hormonal
regulation.
And this can cause mood swings and increased inflammation.
And something called the 'keto crotch' (use your imagination, if you don't know what that is...).
And women wonder why the butter in their coffee isn't making them feel great, although their hubbies or male co-workers claim success with it.
The truth is, classic keto has mostly been studied in men, and it needs to be modified for women.
Experts aren't exactly clear on the cause, but there are many theories...it disrupts the thyroid, can cause low blood sugar and women are more sensitive to carbohydrate restriction than men.
But the fact is that if your hormones aren't strong and intact before you start keto, doing a keto diet and exacerbate the
problen and cause your hormones to go into further havoc.
So be careful in your approach, ladies.
We want to keep our bodies strong, balanced and alwyas leaning toward burning fat, versus hoarding it (another offshoot of keto...while the scale may
say your weight is down, that weight is often water and...ugh...muscle! Hence the risk of creating a 'skinny-fat' body, smaller maybe, but 'looser'....which we most certainly don't want!).
