In our group coaching class, we talked about how to stay 'motivated' in our exercise plan.
One warrior woman confessed that she would often start a 60 day plan, and when the end date came, so too did her best
intentions.
"I'm really good when it starts and ends, and then it falls away."
So what needs to shift here?, I asked her, knowing it wasn't about the programming or food at all.
"Well, I print off two months worth from my computer, and I'm good for those 2 months, but when the program is done, and the calendar is filled,
I just put it all away".
And there was her roadblock....how she was viewing her body transformation.
So I suggested going to the stationary store and getting a year-long journal where she could write down her training every day, what she did, the sets and reps etc. and anything else that's relevant.
Her 'motivation'
roadblock was because she didn't see her training as a lifelong commitment. She would commit to a 60-day program, but she had yet to commit to the lifestyle.
And I can bet that when I mentioned getting a journal book, there was some internal resistance.
She would have felt it in her body somewhere...a heaviness, a pushback...often in the gut (this is the body's wisdom, and when
we learn to connect with the body's emotional guidance system, we get fast and clear answers).
This is where we need to look and feel that internal resistance, name it and claim it, and then decide what different action needs to be taken from that point on.
This lovely lady (who I have trained in the past and I know her work ethic is there) needed to see her healthy regime as a
life-long endeavour, something that you continue on with for 30 years, not just 30 days.
So any conversation around sets, reps, food prep needs to be AFTER this, because it's really not about the exercise or food. It is a long-standing resistance to seeing her fitness and body goals as a lifelong commitment, rather than a 60 day challenge.
Yes, getting your body and health back
IS great, but staying there must be front and center in your life and must come from a place of FLOW, not resistance.
Because what you resist persists.
Change how you view it...
See it as a Journey, not a Destination.
Those of us that live the fitness and wellness life 365
days a year just see it differently...that's all.
