Hey ,
Let me share a few of my lifelong philosophies that have served me well in this life, and have allowed me to live healthy, lean, strong and empowered through thick and
thin...
This was my third show, the Alberta Provincials. I was 33. I won first place and overall. I was 118 pounds, 5'2".
I didn't squat. Too hard on my back.
I
didn't do machine cardio. I rode my bike and did sprint training (run hard, jog, run hard...fartlek training).
I didn't play with macro percentages. No apps. No formulas.
My body, my results, my biofeedback was all I needed to
measure...
I ate 5x a day. Protein at 4 meals (again, I eyeballed it. I let my hunger and satiety cues lead the way...I suppose you could call it intuitive eating. I just called it paying attention).
We didn't talk macros back
then...we just ATE...clean foods, animal or egg protein at every meal, and carbs, always carbs....oatmeal, bagels, rice, potatoes (even white potatoes).
No formulas, no apps, no social media....
And most certainly no drugs, no fat
burners, no carb loading or depleting, no manipulation as such...I just stuck to the basics, plowed ahead and kept going...train, eat, work, rest rinse and repeat...for years.
We had no protein powder back then either.
Of course, no
protein bars, no pre or post workout stuff, just the Basics. Again, not around, and when they did come around, I ignored them. They didn't make sense to me. I had food to do that trick, why would I need man made bars and shakes and stuff.
I rarely did shakes too. I needed real FOOD.
I still run it the same way today.
The basics still apply.
Too many people try to dial in the perfect percentages of macros, or timing, or pre / post workout drinks, type of protein
powder, omega blend....
The magic is in the training...always. This is the most important piece. Always.
Follow that with plenty of high quality food - REAL food, as grown in Mother
Nature.
You gotta eat to create shape.
You gotta eat to lose bodyfat.
Minor the cardio...it will NEVER create shape,
and especially never create definition (sure, you'll lose some weight and it might then result in being able to 'see' your muscles more, but that will halt in time...if you continue, it will start stealing your muscles and use them as fuel).
Moderately hard to hard, consistent, breaking the body up into different
workouts.
Nix the 'whole body' or 'upper body / lower body' workout, kill the HIIT and Bootcamp, IF your goal is awesome shape and definition.
Coaching matters....I didn't always have a coach, but I AM a coach and so I knew what to do, how
to train, how to stay accountable, what my goals were, and my MINDSET is a warrior's mindset, that's just who I am.
A good coach is an investment in self that you MUST take seriously. And make sure they areactually a coach, not a former competitor or trainer that calls themself a coach...it is a certification and it takes YEARS of proactice to be really good at
it.
And find ways to stay motivated and CONSISTENT. I have always been super motivated and hard working, so motivation was never an issue for me (in pretty well any area of my life).
Finding other like-minded women who share the same
values has been hard (I alwyas assumed everyone just thought like me) and that honestly has been the toughest part of my work...the worst feeling is the feeling of having to 'convince' someone or 'motivate' someone to want to train, eat well, get healthy.
Those are externals, and the impetus for change MUST come from within. There MUST be a desire to change, and
then there MUST be a desire to PUT IT INTO ACTION (many say they 'want', but not all are really wanting to do the work. I learned this the hard way, took me years...to discern the serious from the dreamers is still something I watch out for).
I don't train competitors anymore. I coach 40+ women into living as a Lifestyle
Athletes, meaning they want to age well, by living, eating, training, and thinking OUTSIDE the box, and who want to kick TRENDS to the curb. I coach women who are wanting to ROCK her body and her world. A great, healthy, ageless body leads into an AMAZING life!
If you're ready to commit, email
me.
Please note that I don't work with just anyone. You gotta be serious about moving into change and be ready to commit.
I'm not for everyone, and everyone is not for me. And that's OK. It's gotta be a win win situation for
BOTH.
Time to alter this thing called ageing. Us 40+ women are game-changers in the sport of life, as I always say, IF we choose to be.
I chose to be my own version of a Game-Changer many decades ago...and it feels pretty
amazing!
Conventional living is not for me....
