Hey
Many women are still falling into the 'train in a fasted (no food) state' practice, because they think it'll boost weight loss.
It's one of the many myths that women STILL fall into (I covered all the myths in my last video to you...the OLD and the NEW...there were like 49 that I found...but no doubt there are a lot more).
But here's what I teach my clients: we sift out our training from our food. Because the gym is where we reshape, build and craft our body, and the food management is where the weight loss
is.
So I'm not a fan of HIIT (which has a different meaning these days, whereby it's been redefined as doing some lifting, then sprinkle in some cardio in between...rinse and repeat).
Honestly, to me its ludicrous and goes against the science of body re-compositioning (changing your
body).
And besides, it makes mature women look like little kids in the gym, running around doing jumping jacks or high kicks or racing to grab a cardio machine for an all out 30 second BURST of heart-pumping movements.
It's kinda like watching kids on a playground.....they're scatter and run for the next piece of play equipment in a
giddy frenzy of frenetic energy.
For me, when I lift, I lift. Period.
And if I cardio, it's on occasion, and I'll hike, power walk or something much more pleasurable.
And besides, I prefer to keep my hard-earned muscle, thanks, AND well, I dislike
cardio. It also makes me super hungry, ramping up my hunger cues which isn't the feeling I want. Weight training supresses it!)
And before I lift, I ensure I have 1-2 meals in my belly beforehand, because I need to be fueled! And I prefer my body uses FOOD for fuel rather than my muscles.
In fact, usually 2 meals is best for me. Then I
have energy to lift, I can last through my workout, and it aids recovery.
So if you're still into the 'don't eat before you lift' belief, just try this: try eating 1-2 hours before lifting, then lift, and see the difference.
I'll bet you're more energized, feeling stronger and after your workout, you aren't super crazy hungry
either.
Here's a little video I did on this very subject awhile ago...
Now, if you excuse me...I gotta go eat my brekkie... today, oatmeal, protein powder and
berries. YUM!
Karen.
