Betrayal was a lesson learned early in my life....
I was 8 years old, and for many years, by dad was 'working at the office' in Toronto, building his company. At least, that's the story we
got.
It was a long drive from Toronto to our home in the countryside in Burligton, where we lived, my mom, my sister and brother and I...
...so when he told us he had taken an apartment in Toronto to save on the drive, we believed him.
Fast forward 4 or 5
years, and suddenly, the secret was out: for many years he was living with his woman and his child in their home across town.
To make it even more crazy...his two sons were only 6 weeks apart AND he named them both Kim (oh yeah, and he bought both women the same care: a 1968 Ford Mustang...one white, one red).
One can only
wonder what was going through his mind....
When our side of the family 'found out', there was a lot of crying, screaming, but dad wanted to make it all cool, and he invited us kids to his other home to meet his other family, in hopes that we could somehow blend together.
So us kids piled into his car and went to his other
home...
I will never forget that day: Walking through the house was surreal at beast, meeting my now-stepbrother and his mistress (who was to become my stepmom just a few months later).
I came across my 'new brother's' room and peeked in...and there, strewn on his shelves, were all the same toys and gifts that my dad had bought me:
stuffies, banners, a neclace from Hawaii, a hoodie with kangaroos on it from another trip.
And that was when I felt the UGH! feeling as I call it, deep in my solar plexus. And I can still hear my thoughts in that moment, that would stay wtih me for decades: "I'm not special".
This act of betrayal created deep wounds for me,
deeper than I realized. And I know many of you reading this can relate. But there IS healing that can happen.
For me, that was the first moment I felt the connection between the body and our thoughts and feelings...that heavy, dense and awful feeling I had in my gut, in my Solar Plexus, the Third, chakra, if you will, which is our Power Centre.
And here's one vital lesson I have learned in my 30 years of doing this internal work: no one can take your power from you. You give it away. But it is always there to take back.
It was years...DECADES before I learned exactly what I was feeling that day, and how to take back my power.
And ever since that day, I
have learned through much study (and painful events) how the body transmits our thoughts and feelings, and how we can come to understand these 'triggers' within our cells, and then using our tools to transcend the energy. This piece is critical.
This is one reason I am so dedicated to my women weight training....becuase they are re-connecting to their body (or perhaps connecting to it for the first time
ever), and creating direct lines of communication with it, that helps us unravel our emotional sticking places that can easily be cleared away.
Consider your own body...when something bothers you, like being cut off in traffic, or a certain nasty boss, or a certain song...WHAT are you feeling and WHERE in the body do you feel it? I call this the What and Where
lesson.
This is something all my women learn and practice in our Mastery Lifestyle Program...a MUST for health and wellness on ALL levels, physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. The body and brain / soul / spirit ARE one!
Where do you feel 'the hit'? In your head...is it tight or headachy? Perhaps in your throat? Tight
shoulders? Digestion goes off?
Gary Zukav in his book Seat of the Soul calls this your EGS - emotional guidance system. And once we learn to connect our triggers with our body, we can them go into our toolkit and move us out of that dark, heavy stuck energy and transcend it into something higher - into ease, acceptance, self love, gratitude...
And in doijng so, we can begin to get our health and our life back on track, because we are recognizing and using those trigger moments for greater learning and healing.
My 'betrayal' button is healed, but it will never fully go away. It's not supposed to. It's my gift. It tells me when someone is lying, or wanting to take advantage of me...I feel that same 'thump' in my Power Centre,
my solar plexus, which means I am about to give away my power, and in that moment, I am conscious and can make a conscious choice.
Moving the body, feeding it well, and learning these ever-so-faint whispers between body and our psyche and spirit is WHY it's so important to keep our body strong and healthy, move and feed it well, and keep our mind open, aware and aim to live
consciously.
THIS is what I call Divine Health. And THIS is one of the many skills I teach my women on a reagular basis, so they are always living above the fray, living conscious and awake, and able to build health and wellness, and live Empowered moving forward.
Tell me...what triggers you? What is the feeling and WHERE in your body
does it land?
If you learn this skillset, you are far ahead of the crowd, and you will begin to 'see' and live at a higher level. You will be 'awake', rather than live unconsciously, which I feel the majority of people are doing...just trying to tolerate stuff, or pushing it away with food ro drink, or procrastination or fighting or botox or.....
See, you can transmute your old 'stories' and hurts into fresh learnings and greater aawareness at every turn. It's a MUST if you want to live a full, rich life, with a healthy body that ages well.
My father is long gone. He died when I was 21 (he was 47). But he visits me often.
I don't like what my father did
to me and our family, and the pain we lived through for years, but I am thankful for the gifts of learning (and teaching) it has brought me.
Without his betrayal, I would not have learned this intimate and powerful language of the body, and the beatuiful connection between our physical and our spiritual worlds...and be able to teach it forward, to help women heal their health, and live authentically from this
day forward.
As Tony Robbins says, 'Life doesn't happen TO us, it happens FOR us. Challenges sculpt your soul."
But we must learn how to listen, connect and transcend those challenges, or they will forever be stuck in our bodies as ill health, depression, anxiety, disease states, and we will be wondering why we are here, and how life
got so tough with age...
There IS another way to live...this I have learned through this lesson, and many others along the way.
