Is it true?
Is it true that weight training is all grunts and groans, and the gym is just filled with 'knuckleheads' (that's such an old term!)
Not at
all.
Well, ok, there are some grunters in the gym. I'll admit that. BUT to think that you can't meditate or get into your Zen while lifting is, well, it's just not true.
There's still this split between Yogi's and Gym Goers, and personally I don't understand it. You can make of it what you want, really (and if the
grunters are present, put on some funky music!)
I am certified in both weight training AND yoga, and I use both in my training (yoga after lifting...gentle moves that help stretch me out).
And I'm big on meditation and visualization, so often, when I lift, I am lifting in total silence, listening to only my breath, and envisioning the
blood coursing through my veins, and feeling my strength and power grow.
I love it! I'm in Zen-land....
I also 'ground' when I step into the gym..take my shoes and socks off, spread my toes, and I envision Mother Earth energy coming up through the floor and into my body, out the top and into the cosmos, and I feel 'filled up' with this amazing
spritual spritzer, if you will.
see, our training time needn't be boring...you can create anything you want, really! Your time, your space, your choice!
So don't settle for either / or. Step away from the thought that one is better than the other...BOTH are brilliant and BOTH lifting and yoga
matter.
It's only in the 'need to be right' that some people make it about either / or.
Peace out!
