There's a new phenomenon in the 'body recomposition' space...the Bulk and Cut.
It's really about adding on muscle (which means eating over your maintenance calories), then 'cutting' (losing the bodyfat) to reveal your 'new muscle'.
If only it were that simple...and fast.
I don't care if you're 30 or 60 years old...you gotta stick to the work. It's like opening the oven every 5 seconds to see if your cake has risen...too much and it will FLOP!
Patience is one of the main KEYS that you MUST get in line, to reach your Body Transformation goals.
But in today's world, we are sooooo impatient! Let's build for 6 weeks, then cut for 3 and see all that lovely work.
NO.....!!! All you're doing is messing with your own future results!
Or...they do the opposite and try to stay lean all year round, while trying to gain muscle. As a woman over 40, this is extremely
hard...you need to EAT to add shapely muscle AND to build a hot, responsive metabolism that BURNS FAT!
The above picture was my last show at 54, and I worked my routine for 2 years before I 'cut' and headed into show.
My goal was to add more to my upper back and glutes...so I worked my program. And it worked!
I did a very slow cut of my calories. I had to be careful. At my age, I would risk losing my muscle (as we age, the risk of drawing off muscle increases....!).
My strategy (and how I coach my women) is to shave down to SLOWLY take off the fat for summer...so we live leaner in the summer.
Then fall and winter comes and we eat a bit more to build, recover, repair and
reshape...it's NOT rocket science.
But it takes PATIENCE and consistency. And proper coaching, of course.
I call it the Ebb and Flow of eating and exercise. It's a lovely way to live. Natural. Easy.
This trend of 'bulk' and 'cut' simply will NOT work long term for us ageing women.
