There's a new blanme-game on the block..blaming peri menopause / menopause on why you can't get lean, fit and strong ladies....I know hormonal talk is THE bigest talk on social media now. And why? Because us hormonal gals are THE LARGEST population on the planet and we
are being marketed to...BIG time.
✅And I get it. We all want relief from 'the change'.
BUT, when I see women coming forward with '
I can't get in shape, lose the fat, etc etc' because "I'm in peri menopause/menopause...", I want to back them waaaaayyyy up.
This is where I ask (and any good coach shoulod ask and take the time):
How have you lived for the last 30 or 40 years of your life?See, THIS is the bigger picture. Because it's like compound
interest, it all adds up....
❌
The food, the diets, the sitting jobs, the life stresses....the lack of proper movement for 20, 30, 40 years (your college days when you were on the track team do not count here).
❌And slowly, slowly,
your bone has left your body, your muscle mass has decreased (hence, your metabolism has slowed down because of this), your energy has dropped, your
immune system weakens, your food intolerances and
digestive issues intensify....your
stressful living times add up!
You add on maybe 5 pounds a year...that's only 1/2 a pound a month...but 5 to 10 years later, you're 25-50 pounds heavier, and your hormones are now shifting...
❌
And then the focus becomes the evils of hormonal shifts.Yes, you may see more fat accumulation in your tummy (this is because estrogen receptors are calling for more fat in this area, BUT it does not
account for all the extra pounds. THAT is lifestyle!) And it can be altered with HRT, IF women start soon enough.
But THIS is when the majority of women come into
now wanting to strength train and tend to their food...kinda like after the horse has gotten out of the corral, at 40, 50, 60+... And their body has gotten USED to living and doing a certain way because that's the Living Style we've done.
"
But I'm more active now than ever, I never trained before and
I'm training 3-4 days a week."
That's right...you never trained before, but you can't reverse or alter 30 years of living and doing a certian way with suddently now taking on training and food management with any speed....
It takes TIME.......Plus, the gym is for strengthening and shaping. It's not for fat loss. That's found in the food strategy.
And you
HAVE slowed down...we aren't running after our kiddos anymore. We're not
walking to places like we used to. We are on our computers and tablets and phones WAY too much (sitting or standing). THIS adds up.
✅
LIFESTYLE...that is the culprit. ✅✅
And that is the fix.Women have to get real with this aspect, and decide that they are a complete package that includes all of these factors...our history with food, movement, stress, duties, diets, cardio, watching Netflix, etc etc.
We are the sum of all of
our parts...but the marketing would have you believe it is ALL about your hormones...
You're being sold a bill of goods.
Here's what you need to do..✅Get on
HRT (if it's do-able for you)
✅
Strength train 3-4 days a week. Like, really train. With heavy weights. Don't know how? Get a coach. Look on the internet.
✅Eat
3-4 times a day, whole foods, no bingeing, no sugar, little alcohol (or
none...but I enjoy my beer or wine), and STAY on TRACK 7 days a week. Make whole foods your 90%. Like, really.
✅
Stop eating out so much (this includes office gals...make and take).
✅Drink 1-2 liters of clean water a day.
✅
Sleep consistently, same bed and awake time 7 days a week.
✅Do
mobility work (essential for us ageing women. Your body is tightening with age...it NEEDS to stay flexible).
✅Manage
Stress...learn
to meditate, journal, pray...every single day. Sprinkle it throughout the day. 'Stress' is a non word...take a look at WHY you are stressed...over giver? People pleaser? Addicted to being right? Hate your job / marriage? Do something about it.
✅And
breathe....go sit outside, no phone, no noise, just sit in Mother Nature, and be silent for 5, 10 minutes. Let the crazy thoughts swirl, it's ok. Reconnect and ground yourself...
So let's stop hyper-focusing on your hormones
as the challenge and start looking at understanding your life habits and history and managing your daily lifestyle in new, fresh ways.
You may still have the bumps of menopausal shifts, but they won't invade your life AND you will live a healthier, leaner life moving forward.
Here's a little something I put together, this might help explain.....
