Fibromyalgia affects 2 to 4% of the population, with most sufferers being women.
And I'm one of them...
It was described in the 1800s as "muscular rheumatism" and was recognized as a pain syndrome in the 1950s.
It was first diagnosed in 1990 with the publication of the American College of Rheumatology (ACR) classification criteria of 12 'tender points' on the body. Now it is seen as a 'systemic event'.
I was 'diagnosed' in 2000
(along with chronic fatigue, another 'mystery' condition). But I often ask: "Is this really what I have, or is it just how my body responds to ageing, life, stress"....
Or is it a classic stress disease, or food related, or chemical toxicity or all of the above. I share my experience and thoughts here in hopes that it will help
anyone out there challenged with this condition. XO.
