It's all the rage these days, people doing 'piecemeal workouts' (changing up their routine) at every session.
"It keeps them fresh," said one trainer to me just the other day. "And it keeps them coming back. They want to change it up all the time. No boredom."
Really. And no real results, I'd say.
What's really wrong with this? First of all, if your goal is to change the shape of your body, to tighten and tone, to build here, and lose there, your programming needs a certain
level of CONSISTENCY! And you have to STAY with that program for 8-12 weeks.
Sure, we have different workout day,s but those days (i.e. Leg Day) stays consistent in its outline. It must. It's like water over stone, the most powerful carving force in the Universe. Change the direction of the flow every time and it can't cut its grooves into the rock below (i.e. your muscles!)
Now, I'm
not saying every woman wants to add shapely, sexy muscle to her body, who wants to see more definition in her arms, or tighter, firmer glutes. But many of us do, and if that's YOU, then you MUST find a coach that can program this for you! Sure, there are still many women who follow the 'thin is in' philosophy, and don't care about adding muscle, and that's cool. But times are a-changing...and many 'older' women are daring to want more...and we can have it!
I had one client confess to me that this is exactly why she joined my
Power-UP! Program, and that it was exactly what she had been missing. For 6 months, her other trainer had a bootcamp-style approach, where every workout was different, and while it
got her heart rate up, after many months, there were no noticeable changes. "With your program, I am seeing results right away". Ah yes, the power of proper programming combined with weight training.
Forget the burpees (they are dangerous to our joints anyways). Never mind the hop ups, and all those pretzel-like moves that you see those gals doing on YouTube...they are top-of-the-line athletes who have been doing their craft for a long
time, and they are PRO'S!
"The program should fit the person', as the saying goes in our field. Not the other way around. If you're over 40, and you WANT results, then stick to the basics. Use a HYBRID approach to training (my own brand).
I've been doing this work for 30+ years, and I'm also a 50+ woman, so I know firsthand what you need! Full on training, nutrition and lifestyle program
individualized and built for YOU.
And you get your own coach, nutritionist, athlete, and competitor (me!) all in one! Bonus!
You deserve it!
