Miles to go before I sleep....

Published: Fri, 06/24/16

On Tuesday, we celebrated my son's graduation from Camosun College. I had tears in my eyes all day...

I remember when he was diagnosed with muscular dystrophy, I had to take it in little bites, and taking in the enormity of it all was too much. These boys have a greatly shortened lifespan, and the body continues to break down over time.

So for me to be able to stay afloat over the years, I began to look at his life and various milestones we wanted to hit, as mountains that we could climb over time.

The first mountain was to see him get through grade school."Please let him graduate from high school." I proudly watched my son not only graduate, but become school Valedictorian.

Next one: "Please let Tristan graduate from post secondary." He did that on Tuesday.

Now, onto the next two biggies I have for him: to find meaningful work, and to find someone to love.

One of my favourite poems is by Robert Frost in Stopping By Woods on a Snowy Evening - "The woods are lovely, dark and deep, but I have promises to keep, and miles to go before I sleep, miles to go before I sleep." I recite this line often.

Thank you to all who congratulated Tristan on his accomplishments on Facebook. He truly appreciated ALL your comments, and read each and every one of them (with his mom tearing up over his shoulder! LOL!).

Now, on to the next two milestones, God willing. We have many miles to go before we sleep.
