There is a story about Picasso that perfectly sums up how we fail to recognize the work, skill and perseverance behind a person's credentials.
As the tale goes, a woman sees Picasso in a marketplace. She goes up to him and says "Would you mind drawing something for me?"
"Sure," he says, and thirty seconds later, he hands her a remarkably beautiful little sketch. "That will be thirty thousand dollars," he says.
"But Mr. Picasso," the woman says, "how can you chareg me so much? The drawing only took you thirty seconds?"
"Madame," says Picasso, "it took me thirty years."
The same is true of any artistic work, or skillset where the coach or teacher has been in the trenches, learning, growing, amassing knowledge, technique and accomplishments beyond the usual. The effort behind it is often invisible.
So the next time, in your health or fitness search, you choose to find something that you deem 'more affordable', or even free, consider what you are getting for that 'price'.
A qualified coach, that has been in the industry for years, decades even, will inevitably save you time AND money, shortcutting you to success because of the years of honing her skills with hundreds or thousands of clients before you, years of learning and perfecting her skillset, learning from dozens of coaches and hundreds of scenarios that she has purchased, and spent time with, investing in self, to be able to pass that on to you.
