One of the most important part of my coaching is crafting an individualized Food Map based on a client's age, activity, body stats, diet history and food preferences.
Every client records their food into a food log for 2 days (and full food disclosure is required here...no cleaning up their diet for this homework!) which gives me a very clear picture of how their metabolism is working NOW!
Why is this important? Because most food coaches hand out cookie cutter, ready-made food plans. But this never, ever works.
It's arrogant and self serving, really.
How can you know what to plan for them food-wise if you don't know how they have been eating for years? Because their body and metabolism is at this place based on how they have been eating, living and moving for the last 5, 10, 20 years.
There is a saying that success leaves results. The same is true for a lack of success...and it's about deciphering those lack of results. This is what a good coach does.
I wouldn't hand out an exercise program unless I knew a client's lifting history, past and current injuries or restrictions, what kind of equipment she has, and other variables that may come into the picture.
When you see how a client is eating, you can learn about their individual metabolisms, because food choices, timing and life factors create a 'picture' to me, of where they are at.
THEN, and only then, can I build a plan that will allow for proper weight loss without plateauing, stifling hunger cues, supporting and building a strong, shapely body, and (most important) helping them to understand why they may check out with food, why they lose their way, and how we can turn things around when 'life happens'.
It's about building an easy, sustainable eating plan that can be followed for life, with specifics for the 40+ woman (yes, we are different! And so too are our needs!)
A coach coaches the person, and that is the best part of my work! And I pride myself on close coaching, and really being 'in tune' with my female clients. I simply won't coach any other way! And my client results speak for themselves...sustainable weight loss, food freedom, and keeping things simple and workable.
This eating journey is NOT supposed to be complicated, nor should we be counting, recording, using apps, formulas...lordy! We eat food, not numbers!
